Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance responds to major storms and tornadoes in Indiana

Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance claims representative assessing damage from the Sullivan storms

Following major storm systems and tornadoes that swept across Indiana on March 31, 2023, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance mobilized to assist its thousands of clients impacted with claims. Sullivan, Johnson, Clinton and Morgan counties were among the hardest hit areas. Our hearts go out to the families of those who lost their lives as a result of the devasting tornadoes.

“It’s difficult to see your community experience this type of catastrophe,” said Mike Perry, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Agency Manager for Johnson and Bartholomew counties. “Our team members saw their friends, family and neighbors face some of their most difficult days. This is why we exist—responding and assisting in our clients’ times of need is why we are in business.”

Immediately after the storms struck, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance claims representatives, local employees and agents went into action. Claims representatives deployed to the affected areas within hours following the storms. Local employees and agents staffed offices over the weekend, visited clients and handed out food and water.

The following Tuesday, April 11, our claims representatives had inspected every total loss home and auto claim in Sullivan. When it comes to events like these, member-first customer service and quality claims processing are what the company values most.

“In my line of work, I have seen tornado damage up close but when it hits your hometown like this, it’s just different,” shared Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Property Specialist Joey Davidson in an interview with Sullivan Daily Times. “Not that claims in other places are less important, but in your hometown it’s just so much more emotional.”

Terre Haute’s WTHI-TV 10 interviewed Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance insureds, Amy and Jeremy Murdock of Sullivan County, who experienced a total loss. In the interview, Jeremy expressed that during the three days following the loss he was on the phone frequently with their claims representatives.

In an internal message to the company, CEO Kevin Murphy expressed, “I cannot give enough praise to the claims staff, marketing associates, agents and other employees who stepped up to assist—not only in service and claims responses but by handing out meals, supplies and lending a listening ear to our clients in their time of need. You are what makes our company great.”
