For weeks now, I have been thinking about what kind of blog post I could write that would help readers get through this difficult time. Living room exercises? No, haven’t been exercising like I should. Perhaps tips for working from home with children needing e-learning guidance and being, well, completely stir crazy? No way; God knows I’m struggling there. The majority of my colleagues have witnessed video conference visits from the partially dressed little people of my family, a cat that climbed through my window, and I’ve even had to exit a call because the neighbor’s dogs were chasing the chickens

Like many of us, I recognize that this is hard. All of it. Whether you have lost your job, you may be sick, you’re a front-line worker, first responder, a doctor, a nurse, or you’re just plain scared of all of the uncertainty. Everyone is going through something out of the ordinary and it is okay to be scared. But, I also see so much positivity and blessings being counted. So, instead of giving folks tips from someone unqualified to offer any (me), I’m going to share with you a blessing of mine—Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance.

Our family protecting your family. That’s our company’s vision statement. I have been with the company for nearly 13 years and grew up with an insurance agent as a dad (he retired after 25 years with the company). And, until now, could not articulate well why this company and its people are family to me.

Employees are donating blood, delivering groceries to door steps, offering one another words of encouragement and so much more. Many employees are helping our community partners to find ways for employees to give back.

In order to maintain our operations and customer service, we have employees who are in our offices and the field. I learned that some employees are sewing cloth face coverings for other employees and clients. One employee said, “Teams work best when they do more than just work together, but care for the well-being of each other.”

Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance is a one-state operation, much smaller than the national brands you’re familiar with. Even still, the company is issuing premium refunds to its auto insurance clients because it’s the right thing to do.

One of our agents shared, “The reason I work for this company is because it’s a family-oriented company. That’s why I’m here. I believe in the company.”

Our CEO Joe Martin shared something during his weekly video communication to the company that he had recently seen, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” He ended that message with, “we need to be One Team, now more than ever.” I think this captures our company’s culture, straight from our leader’s mouth.
